Program Success

Tandem Mobility's collaboration with the City of Fort Smith has been a result of a multi-entity partnership. Initially, Professor Suman Mitra and the University of Arkansas played a pivotal role by providing the initial funding through an NSA grant. The contractual arrangement is directly with the city, bolstered by the invaluable support of the local planning agency, Western Arkansas Planning & Development District. Under this partnership, This initiative boasts a fleet of 20 pedal bikes and 20 e-bikes (Acton e-bikes, identical to those in Portland), strategically distributed across 8 stations within Fort Smith. Notably, the program embodies an equity-focused approach, ensuring accessibility for all members of the community. Additionally, it marks our pioneering implementation of RFID unlocking technology, enabling riders to unlock bikes conveniently without the necessity of a smartphone or credit card.
